Sony has confirmed that they have already begun working on their next console which is most likely to be called the PlayStation 4.
The company’s Executive Vice President Mr Masaru Kato has addressed a press meet that the production resource was factored into costs and added to the company’s full year financial results that was released yesterday.
“But this is a platform business, so for the future platform – when we’ll be introducing what product, I cannot discuss – but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there.” says Mr Kato.
The statement by Sony boss Mr Hirai a couple of months ago mentioned that “a near-future PS4 or next-generation home console is not something that we are even debating now” and the revelation today as quite in contrast.
While the intended PS3′s 10 year plan is still not even half way through yet, it might be valid to say that the progress of other companies might have got Sony started up on pumping their console system.
The XBox’s nex-gen console is heavily rumored subject and Nintendo is set to launch their new console codenamed Project Cafe at E3. In these situations, this is probably the best move by Sony.
