First DotA 2 tournament comes with $1 million prize money

Valve has finally made an official release and now all the rumors can rest.

gamescom 2011 will be the host to the first ever public preview of the the much awaited and much rumored successor to DotA  called “The International” and the event just could not have gotten bigger.

Sixteen of the finest DotA teams have been invited from across the globe to participate in the first ever DotA 2 Championship and the winner will walk away with $1 million USD.

“The International is the first public Dota 2 event and will give the tens of millions of gamers playing Dota around the world their first look at the new game,” said Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve.

“I have had the good fortune to watch the competitors as they prepare for the tournament, and the level of play is extraordinary.”

The tournament will be conducted in a group stage double-elimination format and all the matches will be have a live broadcast in four different languages.

In addition to the cash prize from Valve, NVidia will be providing all hardware for the event.

DotA 2 will be available later this year for the PC and Mac. As for the open beta, Valve is looking for a large scale release this fall.

gamescom 2011 will commence August 17, 2011 from Cologne, Germany. Whoa!! Just Whoa!!
