Sony completely buys out Ericsson

Sony-Ericsson

Sony has now formally bought out the remaining 50 percent stake of Ericsson to gain complete control over the company and also the PlayStation compatible Xperia Play handset.

The electronics giant is said to have sealed the deal in a massive signing that can be valued at around $1.45 billion.

“We can more rapidly and more widely offer consumers smartphones, laptops, tablets and televisions that seamlessly connect with one another and open up new worlds of online entertainment,” said Sir Howard Stringer, CEO of Sony Corp.

While this is definitely some good news for all Xperia Play users, even those planning on purchasing the PlayStation Vita can rejoice a bit because this can mean the implementation of various telephonic features on to the platform. Will Sony look in to that? Only time can tell.
